Connecting People and Technology to Drive Innovation

Yamazaki Mazak Corporation (President: Takashi Yamazaki, Headquarters: Oguchi, Aichi Prefecture, Japan) announced that it will open a new research and development center, the Mazak Innovation Hub (MIH), in Oguchi, Aichi Prefecture, in August 2027.

The Mazak Innovation Hub will consolidate research, engineering, and prototyping functions into a single location. Serving as a hub that connects diverse talent and technologies, the facility will enhance the efficiency of next-generation technology research and innovative product development.

The MIH will feature an open office layout designed to encourage communication and collaboration across organisational boundaries, including meeting areas that naturally facilitate interaction among employees. Offices will also be located adjacent to a machine tool prototyping and evaluation area, enabling a seamless workflow that links design, prototyping, and evaluation.

In addition, a dedicated collaboration area will be provided for technical exchanges and joint development projects with external partners, further promoting open innovation.

By creating a workplace where employees can work comfortably and fully exercise their creativity, Yamazaki Mazak will continue to attract and develop highly skilled talent while further strengthening its research and development capabilities.

By leveraging the Mazak Innovation Hub as a catalyst, the company aims to accelerate the creation of innovative technologies and products and contribute to the advancement of manufacturing worldwide.

Key Features of the Mazak Innovation Hub

  • Creating an attractive workplace that encourages communication and collaboration

The office will feature a dynamic layout incorporating sofas, high-counter seating, and other flexible workspaces designed to stimulate active communication and employee engagement.

Circulation routes throughout each floor and strategically positioned meeting areas will encourage spontaneous interactions and information sharing among employees from different departments and generations. This environment is intended to promote collaboration and accelerate innovation.

By enhancing employee creativity and engagement, the company seeks to strengthen both talent acquisition and talent development.

  • Bringing people and machines closer together

Offices will also be located adjacent to the machine tool prototyping and evaluation area. Large observation windows overlooking the machine tools will allow employees to stay closely connected to the products under development.

This proximity will encourage employees from various development functions to actively exchange ideas around actual machines and quickly turn those ideas into prototypes for testing and validation.

By strengthening collaboration across design, prototyping, evaluation, and mass production, Mazak will shorten development lead times and respond more quickly to market needs, resulting in the development of competitive products.

  • Promoting open innovation through collaboration with external partners

A dedicated collaboration area will be established to facilitate technical exchange and joint development activities with external research institutions, suppliers, and other partners.

By fostering ongoing dialogue and collaboration, the MIH will promote open innovation and help develop highly specialised talent.

Collaboration rooms will be designed with appropriate security measures, and meeting spaces will be located adjacent to machine installation areas, enabling in-depth technical discussions and technology exchange using actual machine tools. At the same time, partitions and other measures will be implemented around machine tools to ensure confidentiality.

By balancing openness and security, Yamazaki Mazak aims to deepen partnerships and accelerate the creation of new technologies and value.
